Carbon Neutral

The significance of climate change on humankind, the environment and the economy is a matter of concern for us all and sets us many challenges. For many years, Hotel Giardino has committed itself to protecting our environment and fully accepts the part it has to play. For example, several years ago, this particular topic was of great concern to us during renovation work on our rooms. The 2009 season was the first time we managed to completely neutralize all CO2 emissions created in the running of the hotel, making Hotel Giardino the very first carbon-neutral 5 star hotel in Switzerland to offer CO2-neutral holidays to its guests.

The Swiss Climate CO2 Label: a quality standard for businesses that take active and sustainable measures to protect the environment.

We have now even gone one step further for the 2010 season. In conjunction with Swiss Climate AG and as part of an overall climate strategy, we have determined the carbon footprint of our company and taken further appropriate measures to reduce CO2. As a result, all CO2 emissions arising in the hotel have been compensated through the purchase of valuable certificates and their investment in a climate project creating small windfarms in Tamil Nadu, India.

Last week, Hotel Giardino received the Swiss Climate CO2-Neutral certificate. We welcome this distinction for our engagement in environmental protection. At the same time, we see it as our duty to use the award to remain active in this field in our pursuit of a sustainable climate strategy.

Swiss Climate CO2 is the first climate label in Switzerland to cover all sectors of industry, setting clear guidelines for a sustainable climate strategy in companies and allowing such a strategy and its implementation to be verified by an independent body (SQS). The seal of approval is based on the internationally recognized standard ISO 14064 and is in keeping with the recommendations of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
